How to Shorten Google Forms Links in Google Sheets
Shorten the long Google Forms links in your spreadsheet, and the URLs people submit through a form, with a no-code add-on or a simple Apps Script.

Quick answer
Google Forms has no built-in link shortener. To shorten the link to a form, copy its share link and run it through any URL shortener. To shorten URLs that people submit through a form, link the form to a Google Sheet and use an add-on such as Shortly or an Apps Script to convert the response column. Disclosure: Synbus Solutions, the publisher of this blog, makes Shortly.
Two things people mean by this
Searches like "how to create a TinyURL for Google Forms" usually mean one of two jobs. Either you want a short, shareable link to the form itself, or your form collects long URLs (portfolio links, documents, tracking links) and you want them shortened in the response sheet.
Shorten the link to your form
Open the form, click Send, choose the link tab and tick Shorten URL if Google offers it, or copy the link and paste it into a URL shortener. For one form this takes a minute and needs no add-on.
If you share one form across many campaigns, create a separate short link per campaign so you can tell them apart later.
Shorten URLs submitted in form responses
Responses to a Google Form can be sent to a spreadsheet, which makes them accessible to Sheets tools. Once your responses land in a sheet, an add-on can convert the URL column without leaving the spreadsheet.
- In your form, open the Responses tab and choose Link to Sheets.
- Install Shortly from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- In the response sheet, open Extensions, then Shortly, then Open Sidebar.
- Select the column that holds the submitted URLs and a destination column.
- Click Shorten Links Now for existing rows. With Shortly Pro, turn on auto-pilot so new responses are shortened as they arrive.
The Apps Script alternative
If you prefer code, an Apps Script with an on-form-submit trigger can call a shortener API for each new response. You will need to store the API token in Script Properties, handle failed requests, and keep the script working when the API changes. For a few forms it is a reasonable project; see our guide to shortening URLs in bulk in Google Sheets for the trade-offs.
Can Google Forms shorten links automatically?
Not by itself. You need a script with a form-submit trigger, or an add-on with an automatic mode such as Shortly Pro.
Is it free?
Shortening your own form link with a public shortener is free. Shortly's free Starter plan covers 15 short URLs per month; Pro is $5.99 per year and Lifetime is a one-time $39.99.
